Live music, special releases highlight Record Store Day

Musical Energi, which has existed for roughly 30 years and began celebrating Record Store Day years ago after transitioning from selling used to new and used items, opens early on Saturday and features live music later in the day. Last year there were releases from Elvis and Fleetwood Mac, this year from Sir Elton John's live album to a limited release of David Bowie's album, Cracked Actor, there is a little something for everyone.
Record Junkee, which recently moved to Earl Street, is marking the day for the first time in its new location, opening at 8am. The list continues to include a wide range of artists, covering the diverse taste of record stores and their customers.
It's important to note that while the rise of digital's MP3 and streaming music formats have certainly made a dent on the music industry, records have seen a nice return to the world as more bands embrace the warmth of a record.
