Ontario cops arrest more than 100 men in child sex trafficking investigation

More than 100 men have been arrested for allegedly trying to purchase prostituted children online from undercover officers.

Over the last four years, an Ontario police force has tried to curb the practice of men paying for sex with underage girls by having undercover officers pose as child prostitutes online.

The investigation team in just three days of the investigation in 2017 nabbed 19 men, who believed that they were purchasing sex from either a 13-year-old or a 14-year-old child.

Troung says numerous children involved in the sex trade have a hard time trusting and explaining what they know. Truong said that most of the men stopped communicating at that point aside from the 104 men who were arrested in the sting.

Crown prosecutor Susan Orlando said 104 men have charged since 2014 as a result of the effort of York officers, with those pleading guilty receiving penalties of between three and seven months in jail.

"Almost all of these men did not have a criminal record, had stable jobs, families and were not the kind of people that would normally be seen in the criminal justice system", she said.

"So that was a big concern for us which really led us to the genesis of how we were going to try and combat child sex trafficking", he said, adding there were more underage victims identified in the investigation were unable to rescue.

"Young lives are irreparably damaged, some completely destroyed and other lost completely". So the police try to take away the burden and find the men who feed the industry.
