White House names new Secret Service director

Randolph Alles is expected to be tapped to lead the Secret Service. he has served as the acting deputy commissioner of U.S. Customs and Border Protection since Donald Trump's inauguration. He now serves as acting deputy commissioner of Customs and Border protection, where he has worked since 2012. Alles has also led the Air and Marine Operations division of the customs agency, which has more than 1,000 agents, according to the agency's website.
"Mr. Alles served in the U.S. Marine Corps for 35 years, retiring in 2011 as a Major General". Last month, a man jumped the White House fence and spent 15 minutes roaming the grounds.

He is the first Secret Service director in recent history not to come from within the ranks - a step many congressional critics have said is necessary to remake the service's culture. Most recently, its budget has been stretched this year as it watches over a president who travels between several residences, in addition to protecting his immediate family, which oversees a worldwide business.
