Trump supporters turn on special counsel Mueller

WASHINGTON ― With talk circulating that President Donald Trump might try to fire the head of the investigation into ties between his 2016 campaign and Russia, House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) offered his endorsement of special counsel Robert Mueller and recommended that Trump not interfere with the probe.

Newsmax CEO Chris Ruddy tells Judy Woodruff of "PBS NewsHour": "I think he's considering perhaps terminating the special counsel".

"You've had a series of things which send signals that tell people that it's OK to hate Trump, it's OK to think of Trump in violent terms, it's OK to consider assassinating Trump", Gingrich said.

"Director Mueller is going to have the full degree of independence that he needs to conduct that investigation appropriately", Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein told a Senate appropriations subcommittee, referring to special counsel Robert Mueller.

Sessions recused himself from all matters having to do with the Trump-Russia investigation because of his own conversations with Russian officials during the Trump transition.

Morning Joe co-host Joe Scarborough reacted with complete dismay to Gingrich's conspiracy spouting, and called the former House speaker "grotesque" for attacking Mueller, whom he noted is an American hero.

The territory suffers from rolling power cuts , with just four hours of electricity at a time, followed by 14-18 hours of outages. Barhoum said Hamas clarified the issue with other militant groups who denied having any "resistance-related works" in the area.

Statements made by Trump's friend Christopher Ruddy set off many new questions Monday night.

But after the testimony of former FBI Director James Comey last week, Gingrich said he'd changed his mind.

Sessions' appearance before the intelligence committee is an indication of just how much the Russian Federation investigation has shaded his tenure.

"Let me be as clear as I can be: Violence of any kind is unacceptable in our society", Sanders said on the Senate floor Wednesday.

Criticism of special counsel Robert Mueller used to be off limits. The person demanded anonymity to discuss strategy on the sensitive matter.

Because Sessions had recused himself from the Russia investigation over his connection to Trump's campaign and his undisclosed meetings with the Russian ambassador, it was Rosenstein's decision to appoint a special counsel to lead the investigation.

On June 14, 66-year-old James Hodgkinson of IL opened fire during a congressional baseball practice in Alexandria, Virginia. IL business records show that the suspect owned JTH Inspections, which he claimed to have operated for more than 30 years.

Peter Carr, a spokesman for Mueller, declined to comment on Ruddy's remarks.

"I think the president is pretty confident that this is all going to come out in the wash and ultimately, he's still going to be president and this stuff is going to go away", said Gingrich.

If Trump does insist on firing Mueller, however, Schiff said he has a way around him.

It would be hard to make the case, he said, that the experience of interviewing for Federal Bureau of Investigation director would make it impossible for Mueller to fairly exercise the broad discretion afforded to prosecutors.

Rep. Adam Schiff, the top Democrat on the House Intelligence committee, said such a move would "be the last straw" for many in Congress and would have "echoes of Watergate", when President Richard Nixon dismissed special prosecutor Archibald Cox over Cox's subpoenas for White House tapes.
