Oklahoma State assistant basketball coach Lamont Evans, a Kansas State alum and former Wildcat Assistant coach told a judge during an initial court appearance that he understands the allegations that he took bribes to influence star athletes. "We learned of these charges this morning and of course will support the ongoing criminal federal investigation".
Federal prosecutors indicted four NCAA men's basketball assistant coaches on charges of fraud and corruption.
Prosecutors said they uncovered two related schemes, including one in which apparel executives, financial advisers and others bribed assistant college coaches to steer elite players to them, and a second in which players were allegedly bribed to enroll at schools sponsored by Adidas.

Passengers whose flights have been cancelled are being advised of their rights by the Commission for Aviation Regulation. It also faces paying compensation of 250 euros ($300) per traveler for flights canceled on less than two weeks' notice.
The complaint also alleges Evans believed he had the ability to "bury" other advisors if they tried to recruit or sign his players. Evans was hired by Underwood in April 2016 as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator, working together for about a year before Underwood left for the IL job this spring.
"We gotta be very low key", said the coach, according to the Federal Bureau of Investigation. "These are serious accusations that are not consistent with University of SC values". Evans, a Bahamas native, was told to surrender his passport. "None of the coaches asked a single question about his track record in handling players' money".
Evans' next court appearance will be in NY on October 10th. The six counts he faces (conspiracy to commit bribery, solicitation of bribes and gratuities by an agent of a federally funded organization, conspiracy to commit honest services fraud, honest wire services fraud, conspiracy to commit wire fraud and Travel Act conspiracy) carry a maximum sentence of 80 years. "Month, after month, the defendants exploited the hop dreams of student athletes around the country and allegedly treating them as little more than opportunities to enrich themselves through bribery and fraud schemes".
