African-American school teacher DeAndre Harris, victim of a beating by neo-Nazis in Charlottesville, Virginia, in August, has been charged with assaulting the white supremacists who beat him with boards, iron rods, and brass knuckles.
A warrant has been issued for Deandre Shakur Harris in relation to an assault that occurred near the Market Street Parking Garage during the chaos caused by the violent white nationalist Unite the Right rally on August 12.
On today's date, a warrant was issued for Deandre Shakur Harris (B/M; 20 years of age; resident of Suffolk, Virginia) in relation to an assault that occurred on August 12th in the area of the East Market Street parking garage.
The charge of malicious wounding is a felony punishable by one to five years in prison. A detective went to the magistrate and confirmed the victim's claims.
Former soldier Henry Bolton elected as new leader of Ukip
Mr Bolton, who was backed by Nigel Farage , stood for UKIP as police and crime commissioner in Kent in 2016, coming second. At the time the local Surrey newspaper described Bolton as being "concerned about negative campaigning on immigration".
Harris' attorney S. Lee Merritt has described the charge against his client as "clearly retaliatory" and said Harris will soon turn himself into police. Yet, the Charlottesville Police Department issued a warrant to arrest Harris on October 9.
Merritt also alleged that the unidentified accuser has ties to white supremacist groups.
A magistrate issued the warrant Monday.
"We find it highly offensive and upsetting, but what's more jarring is that he's been charged with the same crime as the men who attacked him", Merritt told the newspaper.
