Ivana: I'm the Real First Lady; Melania: No, You're Not

Melania Trump shot back at a remark made by President Trump's first wife, Ivana, during a Monday interview on "Good Morning America", in which Ivana Trump jokingly dubbed herself the "first lady".

Melania's spokeswoman was critical of Ivana's comments, characterizing them in a statement on Monday as "attention seeking and self-serving noise".

Still, she wouldn't want the actual role of first lady.

The true first lady responded with a sharply-worded statement to CNN from her communications director, Stephanie Grisham.

She is a proud mother who writes, she wouldn't be surprised if her youngest child Ivanka Trump occupies the White House in the upcoming years.

Even Trump, who has experienced some of the lowest public approval ratings of a first-year president, has called attention to his wife's popularity.

"She wants to look, out of respect for the White House, wants to look good leaving the front entrance to the White House". Mr Trump married Ms Maples in 1993 only to divorce her a few years later.

"Sometimes I tell him to just, not to speak that much, and tweet are the tweets", she said. "It is too limiting!" when she was asked by the publication about her own political future. I like to do what I want to do, go wherever I want to go with whomever I want to go. Absolutely. But I would not really like to be there.

"I said, 'I think you should tweet".
