Jonny Bairstow: England wicketkeeper spoken to by European Central Bank over Perth 'incident'

England's cricket board is investigating a physical altercation between Jonny Bairstow and Cameron Bancroft that allegedly occurred in a Perth bar earlier this month.

No police report has been filed as of yet and it remains to be seen if the incident will be reviewed by the European Central Bank. 'Following an initial conversation with Jonny Bairstow we understand the context and will follow up with England players and management after the Brisbane Test'.

Claims have surfaced that Bairstow clashed with Australia opener Bancroft outside the Avenue Hotel at the start of the tour Down Under earlier this month.

Bancroft was at that stage playing for Western Australia and hadn't yet been chosen for Australia.

The incident at Perth also rekindles memories of the Warner-Joe Root controversy in which the Australian was suspended for punching Root at a bar. Bancroft is a resident of Perth while the England team was in Perth for their first practice game of the tour.

Seamer Mitchell Starc, meanwhile, has confirmed that Australia would continue to target the fragility of England's tail as his side moved to the brink of a 1-0 lead in the five-match series on Sunday.

A team insider who was at the club told Sportsmail on Sunday: 'Jonny and Cameron were drinking together and Jonny bought him a drink.

"Cricket Australia did not want to become involved last night but England suspect the Australians have allowed their media to fire bullets for them".

What happened between Jonny Bairstow and Cameron Bancroft?

"More ammo for accusations of a drink culture, but this will not help relations between the teams".

"They say Bairstow and Bancroft knocked heads while grappling rugby-style in a non-aggressive manner".

The incident could have implications for Bairstow, who is now in Brisbane for the Ashes tour.

Bairstow, meanwhile, was one of three players who were fined by the European Central Bank last month and accepted formal written warnings for "unprofessional conduct - unrelated to the investigations into Ben Stokes and Alex Hales".

They hope this will prove a storm in a teacup and that England and Bairstow will be able to carry on with the business of trying to salvage their tour in the second Test in Adelaide.
