Trump is in Vietnam as part of a almost two-week tour of Asia, and North Korea's nuclear weapons program has been a major talking point with his Japanese, South Korean and Chinese counterparts.
"That might be a unusual thing to happen but it's a possibility", he said.
Mr Trump called the claim an "artificial barrier" put up by Democrats and once again cast doubt on the conclusion from his own intelligence agencies that Russian Federation tried to interfere in the presidential poll to ensure Hillary Clinton was defeated.
Following his "lunatic remarks" made in September, Trump "made his conceived attempt yet again to alienate our people from the government and keep up rivalry between the DPRK and the worldwide society", the spokesman continued.
Later, after a bilateral meeting with Vietnamese President Tran Dai Quang, Trump was asked at a joint news conference whether he thought it really was possible to be friends with Kim.
Political Transition in Iraqi Kurdistan Region
The two sides are now negotiating control of border posts including areas where an important oil pipeline crosses into Turkey. The autonomous Kurdish Regional Government has faced strong criticism after it held an independence referendum last month.
Trump's visit to Beijing last week Xi reiterated that China would strive for the denuclearization of the Korean peninsula but offered no hint it would change tack on North Korea, with which it fought side by side in the 1950-53 Korean war against USA -led forces.
"The weapons you are acquiring are not making you safer, they are putting your regime in grave danger", Trump said about North Korea during an address at South Korea's National Assembly in Seoul. "If that did happen, it would be a good thing for, I can tell you, for North Korea".
"Every step you take down this dark path increases the peril you face".
He said he asked the Russian leader if he interfered in the 2016 U.S. election and received assurances from Mr Putin that he "absolutely did not meddle".
Is this politics? I don't even know anymore, maybe it is.
Nationals agree to three-year deal to make Martinez their next manager
A formal announcement isn't likely to come until Monday at the earliest, possibly not until after the World Series ends. Jorge Castillo and Chelsea Janes of the Washington Post reported Sunday the contract will have a fourth-year option.
Trump has traded insults and threats with Kim in the past amid escalating tensions over Pyongyang's nuclear and missile programs.
North Korea conducted its sixth and most powerful nuclear bomb test on September 3, prompting another round of United Nations sanctions.
That test would be the 15th ballistic missile test since Trump took office, and the first since September.
"I think we have to be a little patient here for at least a few months to see what more we and others can do, including China", McMaster said.
Nasrallah: Saudi Arabia forced Lebanese PM to resign
The report said due to the "serious" security threats against him, Hariri would not likely return to Lebanon. This is an indication that the resignation was designed to create tension in Lebanon and the region.
