'Thousands' of emails uncovered in Trump Russia probe

An organization that was part of Donald Trump's transition team now claims that a batch of e-mails from the campaign were improperly provided to Robert Mueller during his investigation into possible Russian collusion.

In addition to whether Trump's campaign team colluded with Russian Federation to help him win last year's election, the special counsel is also looking at possible obstruction of justice linked to Trump's firing of Comey.

After Mueller's office obtained thousands of emails from the Trump transition team, officials with Trump for America claimed that the emails had been illegally turned over by the General Services Administration because the account owners never received notification about the request.

"Additionally, certain portions of the [transition] materials the Special Counsel's Office obtained from the GSA, including materials that are susceptible to privilege claims, have been leaked to the press by unknown persons".

Trump also said the United States would move its embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem , though he set no timetable for that. Later in the evening another launch was reported with rockets said to have fallen in open fields in Israeli territory.

The emails in question involve 13 transition officials, including four senior ones, according to the letter. They also follow Mueller's removal of one of his investigators after learning he had exchanged text messages with an Federal Bureau of Investigation attorney that showed bias against then-candidate Trump. He did not name the transition officials who used the devices.

The emails pertain to 13 senior transition officials and many include national security discussions about possible Trump worldwide aims.

Langhofer also accused GSA officials of giving Mueller "tens of thousands of emails" without giving the transition "any notice". Beckler was "hospitalized and incapacitated" in August and died the following month. Then-GSA General Counsel Richard Beckler in June explained to him that all requests for the transition's communications would indeed be routed through its lawyers and that GSA would hold all of the material in secure facilities. But he has apparently caught Michael Flynn in a lie about his lobbying activities and may have former Trump campaign manager Steve Bannon on money laundering crimes he committed before he even knew the president.

A lawyer for TFA, who spoke on background because he was not authorized to speak to media, told NPR it found out on December 13 that GSA officials turned over the emails to the Special Counsel in September.

Ken Nahigian, the Trump transition's executive director and trustee, said in an interview that GSA's decision to share the emails with Mueller's office would have a long-term detrimental effect for future transitions.

"Our committee has direct jurisdiction over the Presidential Transition Act, and it simply does not support withholding transition team emails from criminal investigators", the Maryland Democrat said.

"This is another attempt to discredit Mueller as his #TrumpRussia probe tightens", tweeted Democratic Congressman Eric Swalwell.

The Special Counsel's office said: "We will decline to comment".
