'Billy Graham Finished Faithfully': Lawmakers Mourn the Loss of 'America's Pastor'

The Christian evangelist whose worldwide crusades and role as adviser to decades of USA presidents made him one of the best known religious figures of his time died Wednesday at age 99 at his home in Montreat, N.C., from natural causes.

Graham, who had suffered from cancer, pneumonia and other ailments in his later years, died at his home this morning, his elder son Franklin told followers.

"Billy Graham later regretted his highly negative remarks about Jews and Judaism", Rabbi A. James Rudin, AJC's senior interreligious adviser, said in a statement Wednesday. There was nobody like him!

Graham transformed religious life in America through his preaching and activism and became the most widely heard Christian evangelist in history.
