LA school shooting an accident

Four students were injured in Thursday's morning shooting at Sal Castro Middle School in the Westlake neighborhood of Los Angeles.

Two students - a 15-year-old girl and a 15-year-old boy - were found with gunshot wounds and transported to local hospitals, according to authorities. The aforementioned boy is in stable condition and is expected to fully recover. In addition to the two students who were shot, three others, - including a 30-year-old female, an 11-year-old-male and a 12-year-old female - sustained minor injuries described as cuts and abrasions, mostly likely from broken glass, said the L.A. Fire Department.

"We had some type of a shooting occurrence inside a classroom", said L.A. School Police Chief Steve Zipperman during a press briefing at the scene.

Said Dr Aaron Strumwasser, who treated the teens: "The trajectory of the bullet did not hit any vital structures that were an immediate threat to life".

Parent Claudia Anzueto, 41, said her 12-year-old son was crying when he used someone else's cellphone to call her. She said she had been texting her daughter, but hadn't heard back.

"I stayed quiet and then we started seeing students run", she said. "There's a lot of things I'm sure are going through her mind right now - she's only 12 years old".

The kids said a student had been shot.

Los Angeles police kept parents updated on Twitter and in a meeting outside the school, telling them if they had not heard from their child they should assume they were safe and well.
