SSHURSA Welcomes US Arms Restrictions On South Sudan

The US has expressed frustration with the failure of South Sudanese leaders to put an end to the country's four-year civil war. The move, however, is mostly symbolic since the USA has nearly no defense trade with the East African country. The ongoing violations by the parties especially that which is orchestrated by the government troops in Bieh, Yei, Western Upper Nile and several locations in South Sudan are unacceptable.
"The human cost of the South Sudan conflict has reached epic proportions".

The United States encourages the African Union to consider sanctions against those responsible, and is seeking support for a United Nations Security Council embargo on all arms flows into South Sudan, Nauert said.
