It appears Lance Lynn inking a one-year, $12 million deal with the Minnesota Twins on Saturday was the domino needed to fall to help resolve the long-standing speculation this offseason on where - and when - 2015 National League Cy Young Award victor Jake Arrieta will sign.

Combine that rotation with a newly acquired 1B Carlos Santana and a full season from rookie-sensation Rhys Hoskins, it's not hard to envision the Phillies being in play for a postseason spot in 2018. And as a person and as a family member, he benefitted my family; that's the way I look at it. News of the deal was first reported NBC Sports Philadelphia. It's not yet clear if the club has come around to the idea of a four- or five-year contract or if Arrieta has lowered his asking price in hopes of securing a deal before Opening Day. But he's still a big fish capable of good things.
Arrieta has thrown at least 30 starts in each of his last three seasons as a member of the Chicago Cubs, including his Cy Young Award season where he went 22-6 with a 1.77 ERA and 236-48 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 229 innings. That seems unlikely from the Phillies, seeing as they need rotation help and could use Arrieta's veteran presence, but the market has been unusual this winter.

Arrieta's market had dried up in this freakish offseason after going 14-10 with a 3.53 ERA previous year with the Cubs.
