Michael Bennett turns himself in on charge connected to Super Bowl LI

According to NJ.com's Zach Rosenblatt, Bennett seemed to have a successful day in court Monday as he faces a potential 10 year prison sentence for allegedly assaulting a 66-year-old paraplegic last year in Houstin prior to celebrating his Brother Martellus's Suepr Bowl LI victory on the field.

Bennett was a spectator and in the stadium to support his brother, who played for the New England Patriots.

On Friday, a Harris County (Texas) grand jury indicted Bennett on a felony charge of injury of the elderly.

The court imposed a no-contact order for Bennett with Tatman, the complainant, meaning Bennett is not permitted to contact her.

Chief Acevado said Bennett disregarded the command of a Houston police officer working security at the game who witnessed the incident. His lawyer, Houston defense attorney Rusty Hardin, went on record to claim his innocence.

Hardin said he remains mystified by Acevedo's vitriolic press conference.

Hardin said, as he understands it, someone might have told the woman it was Bennett who pushed her and that's how this all began.

"In this country, people are presumed innocent, and I think we have to be fair about that in all these matters", Roseman said.

When a reporter asked Roseman whether the team would have traded for Bennett, a three-time Pro Bowler, had it known of the pending charge, he said it's important not to assume guilt.

On Friday, Houston Police Chief Art Acevedo called Bennett "pathetic" and "morally corrupt" even though he concedes that there is no video evidence of the incident. "I suspect people think they know this guy, but this is one of the nicest guys".

The Eagles were unaware of any incident before trading for Bennett at the beginning of the league year March 14. "People have the right to present their side. I'm going to take my time to find out what occurred".
