Shoes on Capitol lawn honor kids killed in shootings since Sandy Hook

And yesterday, in a powerful demonstration, members of the global advocacy group Avaaz helped assemble 7,000 pairs of shoes on the southeast lawn of the Capitol building in Washington, D.C. -a commemorative act memorializing those 7,000 students who've lost their lives in USA school shootings since the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in Newtown, CT in 2012.

For Avaaz activists, the shoes were an important way to advocate for gun control.

One of the parents in attendance Tuesday was Tom Mauser, whose son was killed in the Columbine school massacre.
