Dutch Attorney Implicated in Mueller Probe Sentenced to 30 Days in Prison

Special Counsel Robert Mueller's investigation just placed its first person behind bars.

Van der Zwaan, the son-in-law of a Russian oligarch named in the controversial Steele dossier, pleaded guilty in February to the charge of making false statements to the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Mr van der Zwaan previously worked for the law firm Skadden Arps, Slate, Meagher and Flom.

The existence and content of Rosenstein's memo, which was sent to Mueller on May 17, 2017, has not been previously reported, and its revelation appears to significantly hamper Manafort's defense strategy in the Russian Federation investigation.

Here's what Trump could do to Amazon
The company didn't pay federal income tax in 2017 and in the past, did not pay sales taxes in many states. One possible change could affect the growing number of third-party retailers that sell through Amazon.

"We count on people to tell us the truth", said prosecutor Andrew Weissman.

Van der Zwaan has no known ties to the Trump campaign but court documents say he and Gates held discussions with a business associate and former Russian intelligence officer during the final months of the 2016 campaign.

It comes about two months after the 33-year-old pleaded guilty to lying to federal agents about his contacts with former Trump campaign adviser Rick Gates and a person that the FBI has assessed as being tied to Russian military intelligence.

That's why van der Zwann turned over evidence in December 2017, Schwartz said, and didn't toss it into the river near his onetime office in London. Van der Zwaan is the first person to be convicted and sentenced as a result of the special counsel's investigation. Person A is widely believed to be Konstantin Kilimnik, a Russian who worked on Manafort's and Gates' projects in Ukraine. Gates and Manafort were working for Tymoshenko's political rival Victor Yanukovych at the time.

ICE: Pregnant Women No Longer Automatically Released
Pregnant immigrants will still be eligible for release on a case-by-case basis, according to an FAQ published on ICE's website . The Huffington Post reported previous year that two women had suffered miscarriages while in immigration detention facilities.

Both Gates and Manafort have been charged in Mueller's probe with lying to investigators and conspiracy, tied to Manafort's work as a lobbyist for pro-Russia politicians in Ukraine.

The indictment against him did not refer to the 2016 election campaign.

Van der Zwaan's archived biography at the law firm stated that he represented Millhouse Capital and Evraz Holding, the private London investment firm and Russian steel and mining conglomerate owned by Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich, and defended Ukrainian banking, energy and mining oligarch Gennadiy Bogolyubov against separate claims by a fellow Ukrainian billionaire, Viktor Pinchuk, and a Russian oil company, TatNeft. According to the indictment, Federal Bureau of Investigation agents personally questioned van der Zwaan in November 2017 about his communications with Gates and an unidentified Person A.

The report prepared by Skadden was used to defend Ukraine's then pro-Russia President Viktor Yanukovych from global criticism over the jailing of Ms Tymoshenko, a bitter rival who he defeated to become president in 2010.

Vietnam Scraps South China Sea Oil Drilling Project
Today, the Chinese Navy is holding a live-fire drill in the sea to test its combat readiness. The US has been pushing its allies to carry out freedom of navigation operations as well.

Prosecutors have alleged that Manafort and Gates used an offshore account to secretly pay $4 million for the report.
