As Favorable Rating For CIA Goes Up, Support For Waterboarding Goes Down

The US Senate may vote on the nomination of Gina Haspel as the next CIA Director before the Memorial Day break.

Haspel was assured of a favorable vote from the committee, which has an 8-7 Republican majority, when Republican Susan Collins of ME and Democrat Joe Manchin of West Virginia announced they would support her nomination.

Last week, Ms. Haspel, the longtime veteran of the CIA's clandestine service and now the agency's acting director, appeared before the panel to promise committee members she would fight any efforts to reimpose post-9/11 interrogation practices.
